Mountain streams are cold waters that have evolved a highly diverse system which is adapted to a cold temperature, clear water environment, and in which effluents can persist for relatively long periods of time. The lower Logan River below the City of Logan is such a stream. It receives domestic effluent from the City of Logan which at the start of this study went directly, untreated, into the Logan River and which during the course of the study was diverted through
