Id

.
You
will
rote
, from the
attached
correspondence
, that
Dr
.
Stoddart
disagrees
with
some
of
my
views
but
recommends
publishing
the
paper
.
Dr
.
Shirley
, on the
other
hand
,
is
reluctant
to
publish
it
,
feeling
that
it
may
serve
only
tc
promote
controversy
among
range
men
in the
Society
.
Ee
suggests
that if
it
were
presented
as the
concensus
of the
Subject-
Katter
Division
of
Range
Management
,
it
would be
acceptable
.
Whether
the
paper
would
promote
controversy
,
I
can't
say
.
I
have
hopes
that
it
may
stimulate
thought
, and
I
am
sure
Editor
Shirley
would
hope
it
might
. There are
sore
"
new
"
concepts
in the
paper
,
developed
at this
Station
during
the
last
five
years
, and
I
know
, from
comments
made
by
both
editors
about
soil
as an
element
ir
.
range
condition
, that these
concepts
do
not
ha"se
very
wide
cu
rrency
as
yet
.
Regarding
Dr
.
Shirley's
suggestion
that the
paper
be
presentee
as a
group
effort
, he should be
reminded
that
acknowledgment
is
made
to
several
range
specialists
from
various
parts
cf
the
country
for
helpful
criticisms
and
suggestions
. This
does
not
mean
that
each
of these
men
have
agreed
with
all
my
statements
or that
I
have
agreed
with
all
their
criticisms
.
It
does
mean
that
I
have had an
exceptionally
good
opportunity
to
temper
my
ideas
with the
judgment
of
men
distinguished
in the
field
of
range
management
.
Furthermore
,
I
don't
wish
tc
have the
paper
come
cut
as the
concensus
of the
Subject-Latter
Division
of
Range
Management
.
It
isn't
the
Division's
contribution
, and
getting
a
majority
to
ok
it
would not
make
it
so
.
I
must
certainly
acknowledge
the
help
I
have had with
it
, but the
paper
, for
better
or
worse
,
is
my
own
.
Dr
.
Shirley's
suggestion
,
together
with his
implication
that the
range
men
in the
Society
of
American
Foresters
are a
rather
unimportant
group
, would, if
made
public
, be
gladly
siezed
upon
by
some
who
are
trying
tc
convince
range
men
that the
SAP
is
no
place
for them. As
you
know
,
I
have
spent
much
effort
in
promoting
the
Subject-Matter
Division
cf
.
