Description	Lake Powell is the principal reservoir of the Colorado River storage project. It is located on the Colorado River and tributaries in northern Arizona and southeastern Utah. The reservoir extends 186 miles up the Colorado River from the Glen Canyon Dam and 71 miles upstream from the mouth of the San Juan River. The axis of Glen Canyon Dam is located at Colorado River mile 15. 2 as measured upstream from Lees Ferry, Arizona, and is 1. 5 miles downstream from the mouth of Wahweap Creek and about 2 miles northwest of Page, Arizona, , Areas were planimetered at 20-foot intervals by the Division of River Control, Region 4, Salt Lake City, Utah, from large scale topographic maps covering the entire area of Lake Powell. The portion of the reservoir on the San Juan River was mapped in 1947 at a scale of 1:12,000 and contour interval of 20 feet. Mapping on the Colorado River portion was completed in 1960 at a scale of 1:4,800 and contour interval of 10 feet from aerial photography taken in 1958 and 1959. Primary vertical control for these maps was based on first order leveling of the Coast and Geodetic Survey. Elevation-area and elevation-capacity tables at one-foot elevation intervals and elevation-capacity tables to one-hundredth-foot elevation intervals were computed on the Bendix G-15D computer. The computer program for determining intermediate areas and capacities is based on a power function curve-fitting method with capacities determined by integration of the area curve for one-foot intervals. Straight line interpolation was utilized to obtain capacities at one-hundredth-foot intervals.
