nvvwi* yimi x EMBecon/WDHur st:ah/sh 10/1/62 Dale Steed, President Logan Lions Club 1368 East Maple Drive Logan, Utah Dear Mr. Steed: This is in reply to your letter of September 18 expressing the concern of the Logan Lions Club over the lack of public information relating to the Logan Canyon Highway project. You asked what your Club could do to encourage completion of the project. Civic clubs can make an important contribution in emphasizing the need for protection of resource values affected by major construction projects. In the case of the Forest Highway project in Logan Canyon, It would seem Important for all members of the Logan Lions Club to become familiar with the issues involved and then take a position that is in the best long time interest of the people of Cache County and the Nation. In Logan Canyon there are many Important values at stake that can be either adversely affected or enhanced by the Forest Highway depending upon how it Is constructed. These projects have the potential of adversely affecting even to the point of destroying those very values and scenic beauties for which a canyon or other area may be nationally famous. When these values can be expected to increase tourist travel as they become better known, we must be sure that they are preserved for the future. The "Herald Journal^ of February 4, I962, carried an article which very clearly outlines the Forest Service position on the Logan Canyon Road. These requirements for road design and construction were given to the Utah State Department of Highways and the Bureau of Public Roads. Our position
