MAYOR J, BRACKEN LEE'S TESTIMONIAL DINNER Hotel Utah January 7, 197 2 Master of Ceremonies Milton L. Weilenmann In another of a series of appreciation dinners given by Governor and Mrs. Rampton, we are here tonight to honor two distinguished citizens of Utah, who have, given to the State of Utah in excess of three decades of public service. We are here tonight to honor J. Bracken Lee and his lovely wife, Margaret. I indicated that we were here tonight to honor them on their retirement, but I received a letter through the Governor's office the other day, a paragraph of which I would like to read: "Prior commitments make it impossible for me to be with you the night of January 7th, but I do want to participate in some way. And so I am enclosing, a check which may be used to augment the small retirement benefit which you receive, or to help clean up some past political campaign debts, or hopefully to serve as the first contribution for your next campaign in the event you change your mind. My very best wishes for yours and Margaret's continued good health and happiness. Sincerely, Phil J. Purcell." We'll wait for a little later this evening to find out how Bracken Lee responds to that letter. We are honored to welcome you all here this evening. The invocation will be offered by the Most Reverend Joseph L. Federal, Bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City. Bishop Federal, Bishop J. L. Federal In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Let us pray, Oh mighty and everlasting God, we acknowledge our dependence on you from whom all good gifts come. We humbly beg your blessing upon this gathering, especially on those who are being honored. As we remember with gratitude their
