Transcript	smithsonian institution washington d c my dear father january 19th 1869 i have just written to ma and have given her all the news so i will just tell you how fortunate i am i have received from my collection a specimen of each species contained in it so far as i wanted them and from the smithsonian in return for the collections i have sent specimens of the remaining north american species that i cannot obtain at home i have also some of the eggs that i collected as well as others from the shores of the arctic ocean eidef eider ducks geese sec in a few days i will send home a box of books for you = they are principally government survey reports and contain many beautiful illustrations = also a full set of s i reports your affectionate son robert ridgway please write soon-turn over
