FIRST VISITORS
HERE TUESDAY
SIX INDIANS FROM RESERVATION IN THE PARTY.
The first part)' to arrive at the
Second Annual Farmers' Encampment was a group of thirteen
from Fort Duchesne who reached
the College Tuesday evening. The
party is in charge of Hylas Smith
and contains six progressive
Indians farming on the reservation.
The personnel of the party is
as follows : Hylas Smith and son.
George Elliot and son, Hugh

ENCAMPMENT KEYNOTE
STRUCK IN OPENING
SESSION
PRESIDENT PETERSEN DECLARES THAT FARMERS
MUST MARKET STANDARDIZED PRODUCTS
COOPERATIVELY
The keynote of the Second Annual Farmers' Encampment now
meeting on the Campus of the
Utah Agricultural College, was
sounded by President Elmer G.
Peterson of the Institution last
night in his address of welcome
at the opening session of the encampment.
President Peterson declared
that we are now upon the brink
of one of the most significant
developments western agriculture
has ever faced, the development
of cooperative marketing to supply the large markets of southern
California and the still vaster
markets of the Pacific to which
California is an outlet.
"In Utah we have passed from
agricultural pioneering somewhat
suddenly to a condition which
forces us to recognize national
and world markets", declared
President Peterson. "We must,
if we are to maintain our present
standard of living, sell to the
national markets and this is enforcing standardization and developing cooperative facilities
that were not so necessary two
decades ago. This shift is the
most embarrassing circumstance
in our agriculture to-day and at
the same time it is our opportunity.
"We now face the Los Angeles
market with a condensed population of over 500,000 and an immediate and tributary population

HARRIS IS HERE
FOR CONGRESS
MEETINGS WILL BE HELD
TODAY AND FRIDAY.
Dr. F. S. Harris, president of
the Brigham Young University
at Provo, and formerly Director
of the Experiment Station at the
U. A. C. reached the campus at
4 o'clock yesterday. His family
is with him.
Dr. Harris is president of the
Utah Irrigation and Drainage
Congress which is session here
this week. This is an organization which has for its purpose the
