Notes on meeting held at the State Farm Bureau Office on May 7, 1932, for the
purpose of getting reports by cooperative marketing associations on action taken by their
respective boards of directors on membership affiliation with the State Farm Bureau. Mr.
Joseph Anderson in the chair. Chairman Anderson reviewed the procedure of membership affiliations to date.
Reports from associations:
Utah Vegetable Growers Association - David Smith, Manager, reported that his
bpard had approved the membership arrangements and were willing to enter into a membership
agreement and pay 50£ for each member for 1932.
Growers Market - Mr. Smith reported that this company had taken the same action
as the Vegetable Growers Association.
Utah Idaho Pea Growers Association and other cooperative associations in Cache
County reported by Mr. Chambers. He stated that they favored the general plan but preferred to have the amount to be paid to the State Farm Bureau based on a percentage of volume
or value of business handled by the association rather than the flat rate per member. He
further stated that the State Canning Crops Association had not held a meeting to consider
the matter.
Sugar Beet Growers Association - Reported by J. W. Gilman, President, He reported
that the Sugar Beet Growers Association favored the general plan but that they had a problem
to determine the exact membership of this association because of so many farmers growing
beets during different years and the exact number belonging to the county associations was
at present not known. He also stated that they had previously entered into an agreement
with the National Sugar Beet Association which took a part of their fees. Due to these facts
it was at present impossible for this association to sign up for 50£ per member for 1932 but
they would pay the State Farm Bureau the sum of $800 for this year and would work out their
membership problems and would be in a position to sign up definitely for 1933,
Utah Wasatch Dairy Association - Reported by W. J, Thayne. Utah Wasatch Dairy
Association favor the general plan but the finances of this association were in such shape
that they could not stand the expense this year. They would, however, study the matter
further and see what could be done.
Utah Poultry Producers Association, by Joseph Anderson, The directors of the
Utah Poultry Producers Association favor the general plan and voted favorably upon entering
into a membership agreement with the Utah State Farm Bureau,
Weber Central Dairy Association, by Mr. James R. Beus. The directors favor the
plan and were ready to enter into a membership agreement as proposed.
A motion was made by Mr. David Smith that the chairman appoint the following
committees:
1. That a committee be appointed to prepare a membership agreement and
proceed to have same signed by the various cooperative marketing associations
and the Farm Bureau Federation. *-f~
2. That a committee on program be appointed to prepare a general program for
the Federation and make recommendations as to the person or persons to be
employed as executive secretary and to submit recommendations on program and
the exployment of an executive secretary to the executive committee and board
of directors.
