EARLY DEVELOPMENT OF FARM BUREAU AND EjgTSNSION WORK
IN WEBER COUNTY
1915 - Weber County organized the first County Pa-am Buaeau to the State
of Utah, July 31, 1915, the organization providing for a preeident, vice-president, secretary-treasurer, a board of directors and county project committeemen. Each local bureau waa organized with a president, vice-president, secretary-treasurer and committeemen to correspond with the county projects, the
president of the local bureau acting aa county director; the county organization functioning principally through the locals. The hoard of directors outlined and decided upon a program of work and approved county committeemen as
recommended by the executive committee. D. D. McKay, of Suntsville. waa elect ja
president; James R. Beus, of Hooper, vice-president, and W. N. Petterson, secretary-treasurer.
State Leader R. J. Evans had, previous to this date, conferred with Mr.
McKay and had drawn up tentative plans for the organization. W. P. Thomas
been
'^had/appointed county agent early in July and began immediately consulting
witk prominent men of the county in preparation to the organization of the
bureau. The program of work for the remainder of the season ■ as the perfecting of the organization throughout the entire county. The bureau officers
made special effort to obtain the strongest, most influential men in the
county aa local presidents.
The State Farm Bureau waa organized under the leadership of Weber County
in December 1916. For seveaal years the Weber County organization had the
responsibility of the StateFazm Bureau as well as the County Farm Bureau.
Some of the early problems in getting th Bureau organized were:
1. Travel in the county
2. Leaderahip in Weber County iferm Bureau - Has had sound, continuous
intelligent leadership
3. Opposition to Farm Bureau work -at the beginning
