BIOGRAPHY
W. B. ROBINS, GENERAL MANAGER
UTAH COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION
February, 1967
The dynamic growth of the Utah Cooperative Association and its wholly owned
subsidiary, the PAX Company, has been in large measure the result of dynamic
leadership of UCA General Manager, W. B. Robins.
Mr. Robins assumed the responsibility for the management of the struggling
young co-op in 1940, four years after its organization. At the time, W. B. was only
twenty-three years old. Since that time, UCA sales increased from $200, 000 to more
than $4. 5 million in 1966. During this time, the co-op has also owned and later sold
the Uinta Oil Refining Company. Through its subsidiary, PAX Company, the organization manufactures and distributes $1 million of PAX lawn care products in thirty states
from New York to California.
W. B. was born on his father's farm in Scipio, Millard County, Utah, on August
21, 1917, to Clark and Marcella Robins and was educated in Millard County schools.
He graduated with honors from Millard County High School and then attended LDS Business
College in Salt Lake City. He joined UCA as a bookkeeper in 1937, one year after its
organization.
While W. B. is basically an agricultural leader and spokesman, he has always
allied himself with liberal causes. Therefore, he is often associated with the organization of groups dedicated to improving the lot of consumers in Utah. He believes firmly
that the economic interests of farmers and consumers are nearly always compatible.
Under his guidance, the Intermountain Consumer Power Association was organized to
give REAs and public power users a. voice against the private power monopolies in Utah.
He was also instrumental in setting up the first Western States Water and Power Conference. He is a member of the United World Federalists and is a strong proponent of
