ECT: Invit^ ^fwelv^ Local^Leaders to Attend Each UCA
SUBJECT: Invit#/^welv? Local^Leade
7m / ^J UCA management will propose to the Board of Directors on
/ Friday, November 8, 1974, that the general format of UCA's four
J 1975 meetings of the Board be modified. Fourteen cooperatives
/ own UCA, together with about four thousand individuals served
I by dealer-agents and represented by two directors on UCA's Board.
We are proposing that four cooperatives each be asked to send
three local leaders to one quarterly Board meeting in 1975. For
example, Grouse Creek Co-op, Trenton Feed Co-op, Bear River Valley
Co-op, and Davis Farm Co-op could each be asked to select three or
four people from their areas to attend the regular UCA quarterly
Board meeting in January 1975. Four other Co-ops would participate
at the April meeting, etc.
Actually, this is a modified approach to the traditional Co-op
tour idea, "See What You Own". But this goes beyond the usual Co-op
tour where members inspect inventories and facilities. Mi want to
involve local leaders in a rich contact with UCA's Board meetings
and to involve them directly with UCA employees on the job. We
want these leaders to see "What They Own, Who Operates It and How
Policies Are Developed".
If the recommendation is adopted by the Board, we will ask
each of four UCA Board members to bring the visitors to the UCA
office on the day of Board meeting at 10:30 a.m. sharp.
After a forty minute orientation session in the Board room,
these people would be given an opportunity to ask questions, then
the group would be taken on a forty-five minute tour of the office,
the warehouse, the PAX plant, and the new perlite plant.
The group would then reconvene in the Board room for further
