THE BIG PUSH
The urgent and demanding PAX season
is upon us. It's spring...and young men
may turn their thoughts to romance, but
established homeowners turn their thought
to the lawn and garden.
Manager W. B. Robins has predicted
that total volume for this year will
reach the $5 million mark, for the first
time in history. Earnings will be high,
savings will climb.
All of this will result only through
increased efficiency and productivity.
The editorial in the opposite column
clearly indicates that wage increases
ar the direct result of increases in
productivity. Increases in productivity
are the direct result of increases in
efficiency, and...work.
The sale of PAX demands time and
effort from all of us.
HOW TO GET HIGHER WAGES
Take a look at the American business
picture through the years and you see a .
steady, seldom interrupted, climb. Higher
wages...shorter hours...better products...
more and more neople sharing in our nation
wealth.
Labor saving devices, increased investment in plants and equipment and advances
in scientific management have been responsible for all this, as well as better
education and training of people. And
the key to it all lies in "increased productivity,"
When we increase the productivity and
efficiency of our work, we pave the way
for lawer prices of the goods we need in
our living.  Just as important, we pave
the way for higher wages with which to
buy these goods. It's a basic economic
fact: the more we as a nation produce,
the more all of us will prosper.
The miracle of productivity has given
us rising standards of living, greater
earnings and shorter hours of work. No
progress can be made in any direction
without a corresponding increase in productivity.
When we examine Utah Cooperative Assn.
in this capitalistic system, we see that
we producing more of everything than we
were 10 years ago. We're doing it in
better building;? and with better equipment. We're getting paid higher wages
and putting in Less physical effort.
In carrying on this constant progress,
our products have been improved; our
prices have satisfactorily met competition
from other manufacturers. Investors in
UCA have been paid dividends. And funds
have been gained to meet the inevitable
pressures for increased wages.
All of these things have been accomplished by increasing production.
