Apr.il-.3rd , -~Jfl?, Dear Sir, I am glad to get your letter of March 9th and am sending you a couple of copies of our edition of the "0od of His Fathers", although, as you will see, It Is printed from the American plates aid we are using the same cover design as J'cClure. In the first instance we only bought from HcClure 500 copies in sheets; these are just exhausted. We have since cabled for 200 copies more, of which we have received notice of shipment to-day, and at the same time we ordered a set of plates which will doubtless arrive in due course. You probably know something of the extreme difficulty of introducing a new writer to the English market, especially a non-Knglish writer, and while the above numbers may seem small to you, we are entirely satisfied and have every confidence that you will ultimately get a large public here , which you undoubtedly deserve. Our present intention is to publish "The son of the Wolf" in the coming Autumn, unless anything at present unforeseen turns up to prevent it. I will see that you get English clippings and will send duplicates of those which have already appeared and send them to you* I understand that TfcOlure, Phillips & 0o., have a long story by you now In their hands. The London representatives of the house have been uncertain whether t'ney were going to publish it or not. I have told them, without any conditions, that we want it under any circumstances, whether they publish it or not. You will understand from this that we are anxious to take from you whatever you write, with the exception of the one book which you have promised to I'acraillan, and shall hope to be regarded as your regular publishers on this side. A subject which I should like to commend to your consideration Is the advisability of your making a trip over here. You have probably already made up your own mind that you wi3h to see ]&irope and we shall be glad to encourage you to realise that wish at the earliest opportunity.
