Dear Mr. London,
I have your letter of January 23rd. I understand
your feeling in the matter of the Kacnillan contract. I am the
last person in the world to make trouble before it arrives. Ky
disposition always is to believe that everything will go smoothly
until the cutting up rough has begin, therefore I am entirely
willing to accept your viow of the caoe and to let the matter
rest. We will do our bost to help everything to work smoothly.
I wished, however, to put my feeling on record to you so that if
any friction arlceo you win be prepared. As you say, I believe
that in every caoe if we talk it over a satisfactory conclusion
can be reached.
We have not hc/J any further letter on the
subject of the German translation. I wrote and said that we would
be glad to concede the rights on the payment of tho usual fee of
£20 (Twenty pounds) and I think I esplofeed to you that this is
rather the miniissia price asbetwoen English and French^ or German,
Publishers. I have not heard but if the lady has had any
experience die will make tho translation and take it to a
"Publisher with the information as to the amount asked. They will
recognise that as quit? customary and it will not influonoe then
