-7 Early Recollections of Logan Joel Ricks . James Quayle, Father (Joel Ricks) and iustin Shepard came to Cache Valley about June 1 by upper road. We ferried Weber river for fifty cents, which was paid with a sack of oats. Camped one night at Little Valley and were in Welisville the next day. B. Williams and Robert Nelson camped there. We farmed at Smithfield. John Nelson and about fourteen ether families also farmed there. We lived in Welisville. Tried to bring a buggy, but. could not because of high water, tried to ford the river on horse, but could not stake it. D. Reese and G. Charles were plowing where Filler Hansen now lives. We saw them from the Providence Bench. Returned to Fsrraingion and one month later we came back to Cache Valley again. Toraaand Josiah Hendricks and Brother W. C. Cord came in the same party on July 3. Shepherd and others followed them. We were in Logan July 4. Bishop Wright camped on the block opposite to the tabernacle. Ben Williams and others had moved from Welisville. We stopped with them and had a meeting. Wright lived on Jack West's lot. Father and Tom and Hendricks and Card came in through the north fiels. we all went down to see the west field. Tom and father waded the river and went over on to the island near Card's farm. We took up land along the river. We returned to Fastnington the last of July, father and boys came and brought mother and built a log house on the bank site, where mother stayed all winter. April 1, Monday, Barney Stanford end wife and grandmother.
