Abstract	This is a study of two community sponsored predator hunts which took place during the early settlement of Utah, one in the Salt Lake Valley, and another in Cache Valley. The purpose of this study is to give a narrative of the hunts, to explain why they took place, and to explore why they were carried out in a particular fashion. In almost any historical event, multiple factors contribute to create and give meaning to what has happened. In the case of these hunts, factors ranging from survival to hatred of predatory animals must be considered.
