A brief history of the Town from pioneer days
until the time of 1912.
Before these fields were shorn and till'd
Full to the brim our rivers flowed,
The melody of waters filled
The fresh and boundless wood;

Situated in the heart of the beautiful Cache Valley
surrounded on all sides by majestic mountains, stands in all its
beauty, the enterprising and growing City of Smithfield.  A living
throbbing monument to the brave men and women of fifty years ago,
who toiled and labored in the face of seemingly insurmountable
barriers to build for themselves and future off-spring a place to
be called home.  And proud, indeed, may the remainder of those
gallant pioneers who still survive, be, when they walk the streets
of this hustling little city and gaze upon the great results of
their labors of by-gone days.
From a desolate wilderness a trackless desert, the hauntof
the red men and wild beast, has srisen, through the indefatagable
energy and perseverance of the white man, a valley beautiful,
yeilding an abundance of good things in the way of luscious fruits
and rich, plentiful crops, and dotted here and there with thriving
growing towns.
It was in the year 1859 that there came to the banks of
Summit Creek, a beautiful stream of clear mountain water, shaded
by large cottonwood trees, a band of brave pioneers, who had
faced privation and the dangers of the desert, and chose thie
beautiful spot as a goodly place to settle.  This party of home-
