Images in this digital collection represent just a fraction of the many thousands of portraits and other photographs taken by the Compton Studio in Brigham City, Utah from 1884 to 1994. Three generations of Comptons operated the Compton Studio, creating a remarkable visual record of business, agriculture, education, and social activities in Box Elder County spanning almost century.
The entire collection of 90,000 original photographic negatives is housed in 653 boxes in USU Libraries' Special Collections and Archives. The detailed inventory for the collection, available online at http://archiveswest.orbiscascade.org/ark:/80444/xv71670, transcribed from the hand-written registers kept by the Compton Studio, making this unique collection an especially rich resource for researchers.
