Description |
Hachiman is a syncretic divinity of warriors with origins in Buddhism and Shinto. Hachiman Festival (also known as Takayama Festival) is an autumn/harvest festival and is one of Japan's three largest festivals. The shrine is featured as one of several parade floats during the Hachiman Festival. Spectator crowds upwards of 500,000 cheer on parade participants by throwing water on them as they pass by. Reason being, in part, that presumably the gods enjoy a good soaking; while it also provides relief for parade participants from the hot, humid Japanese summer weather. |
