This interview is included in the American Folklore Society Oral History Project held at the Archive of Folk Culture, American Folklife Center, Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. Interview with Bess Lomax Hawes, folklorist and sister of Alan Lomax, conducted by Joanne Rasi at the Library of Congress on April 25, 2004 in conjunction with the announcement of the acquisition of the Alan Lomax Collection by the American Folklife Center. Folklorist, professor of Anthropology at Cal State Northridge. In 1977, she was named first director of the Folk and Traditional Arts Program at the National Endowment for the Arts, and created the National Heritage Fellowships, which recognize traditional artists and performers. Born January 21, 1921; died November 27, 2009. This collection was recorded in the Recording Laboratory, Library of Congress on April 25, 2004. It is composed of 1 folder, 1 videocassette of 1 (60 min.) (Mini-DV) : digital, sound, color, and 1 sound cassette of 1 (60 min.) (DAT) : digital. |
