PLEASE DELIVER TO: Jim Hansen FROM: KENLEY BRUNSDALE Comments: Please deliver this to the Congressman ASAP. The letter and enclosures are in the mail but he needs to know about the opportunity to appear before the Surface Transportation Subcommittee. Dear Representative Hansen: I noticed you are scheduled to testify before the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee to request funding in upgrade Highway 89. However, I am also aware that no authorization or informal approval has been given for this appropriation by the authorizing committee -- Public Works and Transportation. As you know the House rules prohibit appropriations where no prior authorization has been given. I was surprised to learn that you did not take advantage of the chance to request authorization at the recent hearings held by the Public Works Committee for members of congress with special projects. Fortunately, there will be another opportunity. On April 18, the Surface Transportation Subcommittee has scheduled another short authorization hearing. I suggest you request an opportunity to present our District's needs and concerns. I have researched and prepared a statement for you. I offer it as a suggestion. You will notice that I have expanded the request to include authorization for funding to restore the causeway to Antelope Island. Antelope Island a unrealized gem, both as an environmental resource and a tourist attraction. The recommended statement underscores its importance to northern Utah. Becasue of other competing priorities our state has been unable to fund repair of the causeway. The opportunity to obtain federal help has gone unnoticed. I bring it to your attention, together with a plan of action, with the hope that we can made it part of the congressional agenda being pursued for the first District. Sincerely, Kenley Brunsdale
