TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS! LONDON, W.C. -
Office of MANAGING DIRECTOR,
_ „.. February 18 th, /00 2
Va have within the last few weeks put your book "The
God of His Fathers8 on the English market, having taken it from
Messrs UcClura, Phillips & Co. We have also bought the rights
in "The son of the Uolf" from the English house to whoa Messrs
Houghton, Mifflin & Co. had parted with the^E^-M-sh r4-gfrt-3. We
are now writing to say to you that (as we have already informed
Messrs Houghton, Mifflin & Co.) we shall hope to have whatever
future work you are putting out. We wish to express our
admiration of the power with which you write and it is our
intention to push your books strongly in England, believing that
they deserve success.
As a commercial mutter we believe it will be to your
advantage to see that your future books also come into our hands
on this side. Ue also hope that you will see soiae propriety in
continuing as far as possible your connection with the house
which is now preparing to gamble on your first work when it cm^t
be very much of an expertofrti with the English public. It may
perhaps be as well to explain that the undersigned has lived in
the United States for some 15 years* and is not unfamiliar with
mining life. Personal considerations have largely ewayed us in
our determination to take hold of your work in earnest, and to
do all that we can to make a success of it. ^part from that let
me say again that there is a very sincere admiration for the
quality of your writing.
with best wishes.
Yours wery sincerely,^
